Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone attack on Ukraine on 14 November, killing at least five civilians in Kyiv and two in Chornomorsk, and injuring about 50 people across multiple regions, according to Ukrainian local and national authorities. Residential buildings, civilian infrastructure, and utility networks were damaged in Kyiv city, as well as in Kyiv Oblast, and several other regions including Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Kirovohrad.

Ukraine's Air Force says Kyiv was the primary target, with Kyiv Oblast, Kharkiv Oblast, Odesa Oblast, Poltava Oblast, and Cherkasy Oblast also affected.

Kyiv bears brunt of Russian attack with five deaths, apartments hit, power and heating outages reported

Russian drones and missiles struck nine districts of Kyiv during the overnight assault, according to reports from Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA).

All five fatalities occurred in Desnianskyi district, where rescue operations continued throughout the morning. Among the 35 wounded were a 10-year-old child and a 7-year-old with facial injuries, and a pregnant woman who required hospitalization. One man remained in critical condition as of the morning.

The attack damaged dozens of residential buildings across Kyiv's Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Podilskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Solomyanskyi, Holosiivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Obolonsky districts. In Dniprovskyi district, debris hit a five-story building, causing destruction on lower floors and fires in two apartments. Rescue workers evacuated nine people from that building. The district saw three multi-apartment buildings and one private residence damaged, with five people wounded.

Podilskyi district suffered damage to five residential buildings and one non-residential structure, with fires reported on the 10th and 12th floors of different buildings. In Obolonskyi district, fires broke out on the seventh and ninth floors of one residential building. Desnianskyi district saw direct hits and fires in two multi-story buildings, where rescue teams worked through the morning clearing rubble.

A Kyiv woman from Dniprovskyi district described her experience to Suspilne:

"I heard nothing, I started putting out my hair. My hair caught fire, and then I saw that everything was dark, in smoke."

Power and heating facilities targeted

Russia damaged sections of Kyiv's heating networks during the attack, according to Klitschko. Parts of Desnianskyi district lost heating due to an emergency situation on heat transmission lines. Portions of Podilskyi district also experienced heating disruptions. Municipal services worked to determine the extent of damage and began immediate repairs.

Klitschko warned residents of possible electricity and water supply interruptions. Energy workers later reported they had eliminated localized emergency outages caused by the attack.

Azerbaijan embassy sustains damage from Iskander debris

Debris from an Iskander missile damaged Azerbaijan's embassy in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported.

Seven more civilians injured across five districts of Kyiv Oblast

Kyiv Oblast authorities reported no fatalities, but seven people were injured. Regional administration head Mykola Kalashnyk mentioned six injuries, while Irpin Mayor Oleksandr Markushyn reported that the Russian attack also injured a woman in his city. 

• In Bila Tserkva, a 55-year-old man suffered thermal burns.
• In Fastivskyi district, a man sustained multiple shoulder wounds.
• In Vyshhorodskyi district, a 47-year-old man, a 56-year-old man, and a 7-year-old child were injured.
• In Buchanskyi district, a woman suffered a hand injury.
• In Irpin district, a woman was treated for a bruised arm.

Damage to dozens of residential and non-residential buildings was reported, but no fires were recorded in the oblast outside Kyiv city.

Russia possibly deploys Zircon hypersonic missile against Sumy

Russian forces struck the outskirts of Sumy at 7:05 a.m., with Zelenskyy stating that Russia used a Zircon-type missile according to preliminary data. The explosion damaged road pavement, ruptured a fire hydrant causing water leaks, and temporarily closed a road section. Artem Kobzar, acting mayor of Sumy, reported no casualties from the strike.

Russian forces also struck Sumy's industrial zone with drones around 9:00 a.m., causing a fire at a production facility. Sumy Oblast head Oleh Hryhorov noted that Russia attacked the industrial zone with drones for the second consecutive day. 

Odesa Oblast: two dead, seven injured in Chornomorsk market attack

Russian forces attacked a local market in Chornomorsk, Odesa Oblast, with strike drones, killing two people and wounding seven others. Some of the wounded remained in serious condition, according to Odesa Oblast head Oleh Kiper.

The strike damaged the city square, shop facades, and private vehicles. The blast wave shattered windows in a nearby college. Rescue workers and all relevant services worked at the scene.

Critical infrastructure hit across seven oblasts

Vice Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba reported heating and water supply disruptions in Kyiv city and oblast, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, and Donetsk oblasts. Repair crews deployed and activated reserve systems where needed.

• Russian forces struck a non-operational private facility in Chuhuiv, Kharkiv Oblast, with drones, causing a fire in an administrative building, according to Mayor Halyna Minaieva. The attack caused no casualties.
• More than 3,000 customers in Tsyrkuny community of Kharkiv Oblast lost gas service due to combat operations, Kharkiv branch of Gazmerezhi reported. The company received information about the gas supply disruption affecting part of Kharkiv district.
• In Kirovohrad Oblast, Russian attacks damaged power transmission lines in Novoukrainka district, leaving 16 settlements without electricity. Regional administration head Andrii Raikovych reported that power was restored to all affected settlements by 8:08 a.m.

Ukrainian Air Force: 430 drones and 19 missiles launched

Ukrainian Air Force said air defenders shot down or suppressed 419 aerial targets out of 449 detected. Russia reportedly started the attack from 6:00 p.m. on 13 November using strike drones and missiles from air, ground, and sea platforms.

Moscow fired 430 Shahed and Gerbera long-range strike drones and 19 missiles from several location in Russia and occupied Crimea.  Among the missiles used were three Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles from Ryazan Oblast, one Zircon anti-ship missile, six Iskander-K and Kalibr cruise missiles from occupied Crimea and the Black Sea, and nine Iskander-M and KN-23 ballistic missiles from Bryansk Oblast.

Ukraine’s Air Force stated that Russian forces launched 449 aerial threats: 430 strike UAVs and 19 missiles (ballistic and cruise).
Out of these, 419 were intercepted or suppressed:

• 405 drones
• 6 ballistic missiles (Iskander-M or KN-23)
• 6 cruise missiles (Iskander-K or Kalibr)
• 2 Kinzhal missiles

 The Air Force recorded missile and drone hits at 13 locations and debris falls at 44 locations.

Zelenskyy: attack aimed to maximize civilian harm

President Zelenskyy emphasized the deliberate nature of the Russian attack in his morning statement.

"A deliberately calculated attack to cause as much harm as possible to people and civilian infrastructure," he wrote. 

The President emphasized that Russia continues to benefit financially from oil exports by circumventing existing sanctions. He called for these evasion schemes to be effectively shut down, and urged allied nations, particularly in Europe and the United States, to provide Ukraine with additional air defense systems and interceptor missiles.

"A lot of work is being done with partners to strengthen air defense, but not enough. Strengthening with additional systems and interceptor missiles is needed. Europe and the USA can help. We count on real decisions," he added.

Russia targets energy infrastructure in three oblasts

Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure in Odesa, Donetsk, and Kharkiv oblasts overnight, Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy reported. The strikes caused damage to critical facilities, prompting immediate repair efforts. Officials said hourly blackout schedules are now in effect across most oblasts, lasting from 00:00 to 23:59.

Power grid operator Ukrenergo noted that the blackout schedules apply in two to four alternating stages and affect both households and industrial users. These schedules are published on the websites of regional power distribution operators.

Crews have begun emergency restoration works and expect power to be restored by the end of the day.

Odesa hit by fire, rail depot and admin buildings damaged

In Odesa Oblast, Russian drones struck both energy and transport infrastructure overnight. The State Emergency Service of Odesa Oblast reported fires at energy sites, which were extinguished by 22 emergency workers with four vehicles, alongside two vehicles and seven personnel from local fire brigades. The Odesa Oblast Military Administration said administrative buildings and a Ukrzaliznytsia rail depot were among the damaged targets.

One civilian suffered shrapnel wounds and received medical attention. Local authorities confirmed that critical infrastructure is now operating on backup generators, and “invincibility points” have been opened to provide heating and electricity access for civilians. Law enforcement is documenting what officials describe as further Russian war crimes.

According to Suspilne, the air raid alert in Odesa Oblast began at 23:01 on 10 November. The Air Force warned of incoming attack drones from the Black Sea toward Izmail district. At 00:28, several groups of drones were confirmed moving toward Reni. The alert ended at 1:35.

Nearly 120 drones launched, Ukraine intercepts just 53

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russian forces launched 119 attack UAVs between the evening of 10 November and the morning of 11 November, using explosive Shahed, decoy Gerbera, and other types of drones. Launch points included Russia’s Oryol, Bryansk, Kursk, and Millerovo, as well as the Russian-occupied village of Hvardiiske in Crimea. Approximately 80 of the drones were Shaheds.

The strikes focused on frontline oblasts including the oblasts of Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk, as well as Odesa. Ukraine’s defense used aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, drone defense groups, and mobile fire teams to respond. As of 09:30, 53 drones had been shot down or suppressed across the north, east, and south.

Russia launched another overnight drone and missile attack on Ukraine in the early hours of 10 November, targeting multiple oblasts across the country, according to Ukraine’s Air Force. While most long-range drones were intercepted, some strikes still caused civilian casualties, infrastructure damage, and fires in several areas. More civilians were hurt in Russia's artillery and short-range drone attacks across several regions, local authorities reported.

52 drones intercepted but 15 reach targets across Ukraine

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russian forces attacked with 67 long-range drones of various types — primarily Shaheds, as well as Gerbera and other strike UAVs — launched from multiple directions, including Russia’s Kursk, Millerovo, Oryol, and Bryansk oblasts, and from occupied Crimea. Two Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles were launched from the airspace over Tambov Oblast, and five S-300/S-400 surface-to-air missiles were fired from Kursk Oblast.

By 9:30 a.m., Ukrainian air defense units — using aircraft, mobile fire teams, electronic warfare, and missile systems — had downed or jammed 52 drones.

Civilian casualties

In Sumy Oblast, Russian long-range drone strikes injured two women early on November. A 45-year-old woman was hurt in the Velykopysarivska community, and an 89-year-old woman was hospitalized after a drone hit the Krasnopilska community, local police and the oblast administration reported. Drone attacks also damaged three apartment buildings, seven one-family homes, four warehouses, two garages, one outbuilding, power lines, and two vehicles in six communities across five districts.

In Kharkiv Oblast, two women were injured when Russian drones hit the village of Prykolotne in Kupiansk District. At least ten detached homes and other structures were damaged, the oblast prosecutor’s office said.

In Kherson Oblast, a 26-year-old man died after a Russian short-range drone dropped explosives on a residential street in Stanislav on 9 November around 4:00 p.m., according to the oblast prosecutor’s office. Law enforcement launched a war crimes investigation.

Elsewhere in Kherson, Russian shelling injured a 49-year-old employee of a scientific institution in the Korabelnyi District. She sustained leg wounds, a concussion, and cranial trauma. In a separate attack, a 59-year-old woman suffered a concussion and head injuries in her own home. Both were hospitalized, the regional authorities said.

In Donetsk Oblast, two civilians were injured in Russian attacks over the past day, said oblast head Vadym Filashkin. Late on 9 November, Russian forces used a Granat-4 drone to strike Sloviansk on 9 November, damaging a two-story apartment building and a vehicle. No injuries were reported in that particular strike.

Fire breaks out on Odesa apartment building facade

In Odesa, a drone strike early on 10 November ignited the facade of a four-story residential building. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, said Odesa Oblast head Oleh Kiper. There were no injuries or deaths.

Russian strikes on Dnipropetrovsk Oblast sparked multiple fires. In Nikopol and the Pokrovska community, artillery and drones ignited a private home. In the Vasylkivska community of Synelnykove District, a drone strike caused a fire in a church and damaged a bank building, according to acting oblast head Vladyslav Haivanenko. No injuries were reported.

Khmelnytskyi Oblast also came under attack during an air raid on 10 November, but local authorities said there were no casualties or damage.

Zaporizhzhia Oblast authorities recorded 367 Russian strikes in the past 24 hours, according to oblast head Ivan Fedorov. 13 localities came under fire. Russian forces launched seven airstrikes, used 162 FPV drones, 4 MLRS barrages, and 194 artillery strikes.

In Kharkiv and the surrounding oblast, construction crews are working in shifts, often without power or mobile connection, to build dozens of underground schools, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science. The initiative is part of the country’s push to restore offline education in safer conditions for children in frontline areas.

Ukraine builds underground schools in Kharkiv to protect children from airstrikes

A total of 38 underground schools are currently under construction across Kharkiv and Kharkiv Oblast. Seven more projects are underway with support from international partners, according to Education Minister Oksen Lisovyi. He said Kharkiv Oblast is leading Ukraine in the number of such school construction projects.

Lisovyi says he visited the region last week to inspect the pace of the work and identify community needs ahead of planning the 2026 budget. Authorities hope to complete several sites by the end of this year. In just two days, Lisovyi and his team reviewed 21 construction sites — five of which are already hosting full-time in-person classes.

The schools are being built as part of Ukraine’s nationwide “School Offline” policy, which aims to bring students back to classrooms despite the ongoing war. The effort has taken on special urgency in Kharkiv, where airstrikes remain frequent and deadly.

“They are doing everything they can to finish the schools and return children to safe classrooms as soon as possible,” Lisovyi said. “This commitment and perseverance is the main reason why work doesn’t stop, even under shelling.”

Underground classrooms as a national strategy

The Education Minister said the push for underground schools is not just a local effort but part of a broader state policy to restore in-person education throughout Ukraine.

“Even in frontline regions, children have the right to education and a normal school life,” Lisovyi said.

He added that the government plans to expand the program so that every child in Ukraine can study in person, near their peers, and in a secure environment.

In an overnight assault on 30-31 October, Russia launched a nationwide drone and missile attack targeting Ukrainian cities, railways, and energy infrastructure. The most intense strikes hit Sumy, where 15 civilians — including four children — were injured, according to the local authorities. Other Russian attacks killed 12 and injured at least 57 civilians.

According to Ukraine’s Air Force, the country was hit with 145 strike drones and one Iskander-M ballistic missile between 19:00 on 30 October and the early hours of 31 October. Most of the drones were of the Shahed and Gerbera types. Air defense units, electronic warfare teams, and mobile fire groups shot down or suppressed 107 drones and one missile. However, 36 drones managed to strike 20 locations.

Russia attacks Sumy, injures civilians

From the evening of 30 October through the morning of 31 October, Russian forces attacked Sumy with ten strike drones, causing widespread destruction in residential areas and key infrastructure sites, injuring 15 civilians. According to the regional prosecutor’s office and local officials, drones hit single-family homes and multi-story buildings in two districts.

The State Emergency Service of Sumy Oblast reported that a nine-story apartment building was struck, igniting fires in five apartments and seven balconies. Elsewhere, a two-story house and detached residences sustained major damage. Two critical infrastructure sites were also hit, and two men — aged 49 and 54 — were injured there.

Russia also struck the passenger train depot of Ukrzaliznytsia in Sumy. The railway operator reported that maintenance buildings and rolling stock were damaged or destroyed. Vice PM for Ukraine's restoration Oleksii Kuleba said the depot served purely civilian purposes — preparing carriages for daily routes — and condemned the strike as part of a deliberate campaign targeting non-military infrastructure.

Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed no railway staff were injured, as they had reached shelters in time.

In addition to Sumy, Russian drones struck railway facilities in Kharkiv Oblast. The Kharkiv Oblast Administration confirmed that infrastructure and power lines were damaged in Lozova Raion.

Donetsk Oblast: eight civilians killed in single day

Donetsk Oblast recorded the highest civilian death toll over the past 24 hours. According to the Donetsk Oblast Military Administration, Russian attacks on 30 October killed eight people and injured 18. In Hryshyne, Pokrovsk City Military Administration reported that a married couple died when their home was shelled.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported yesterday evening that two people were killed and others injured in a Russian bombing of the Sloviansk thermal power station, calling the attack “pure terror.”

Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv oblasts hit by drone and artillery fire

• In Kherson Oblast, Russian forces shelled 45 settlements, according to Oblast Military Administration head Oleksandr Prokudin. One person was killed, and seven others — including a child — were injured.
• Zaporizhzhia Oblast endured 673 Russian strikes on 30 October, hitting 19 communities. Oblast head Ivan Fedorov reported that three people were killed and 29 injured.
• Kharkiv Oblast officials said various Russian attacks injured three people — a 78-year-old man, a 56-year-old , and a 59-year-old man.

Other oblasts: strikes and interceptions

• In Mykolaiv Oblast, falling debris from a downed Shahed drone damaged a medical facility, a private residence, and three cars, but no injuries were reported, according to the Oblast Military Administration.
• Cherkasy Oblast head Ihor Taburets reported that air defenses intercepted a strike drone and two missiles on 30 October. No injuries or damage occurred. The night of 31 October remained calm in the oblast.
• In Chernihiv Oblast, Russian forces attacked four border communities using FPV drones, mortars, and UAV-dropped explosives. No injuries were reported.

Russia launched an unusually small drone attack overnight on 27–28 October, using just 38 UAVs instead of a hundred or the hundreds typically deployed each night. But despite the reduced numbers, the explosive drones still caused damage across Ukraine. Moreover, other Russian attacks over the past 24 hours killed three civilians and injured at least 13 more with FPV drones, artillery, and air-dropped munitions, local authorities say.

Ukrainian Air Force: 38 drones launched, 26 destroyed or suppressed

According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia launched 38 long-range UAVs—mostly explosive Shaheds, along with decoy Gerbera and other types—from the directions of Kursk and Oryol. About 25 were Shaheds.

Ukraine’s defenders used aviation, missile units, electronic warfare, drone systems, and mobile fire groups. By 9:00, 26 drones were downed or suppressed over the north and east. Twelve reached targets at four locations, and debris fell on a fifth. Several drones remained airborne into the morning.

Chernihiv Oblast: Shahed hits city center, communications lost, two injured

A Shahed exploded in central Chernihiv at 23:50, knocking out mobile communication, according to Suspilne. The Air Force had earlier reported drones approaching from the east.

Earlier that day, four homes were damaged by a Russian drone; one man was hospitalized with shrapnel injuries.

Later that night, another Russian drone hit a retreat center in Novhorod-Siverskyi, injuring an elderly woman and sparking a fire.

Mykolaiv Oblast: school, kindergarten, and power line damaged

Eight FPV drones struck the Ochakiv and Halytsynivka communities, while artillery hit Kutsurub. In Dmytrivka, a school, kindergarten, private home, and power line were damaged. Power was restored by morning, the regional authorities said.

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast: farm and gas line hit, no casualties

Russian artillery and drones struck Nikopol and Pokrovska, setting a house and utility structure on fire. A farm and gas pipeline were damaged. In Shakhtarska, a drone damaged infrastructure. The oblast authorities reported no casualties.

Kherson Oblast: one killed, six wounded in 25 attacked settlements

Russian troops shelled 25 settlements in Kherson Oblast throughout the day using multiple types of weaponry. The Russian attacks damaged a multi-story building, six detached houses, garages, outbuildings, and civilian vehicles. One person was killed and six others injured, according to oblast head Oleksandr Prokudin.

Zaporizhzhia Oblast: 396 strikes, one dead, three injured

The local authorities say Russian forces hit 15 settlements with 396 strikes. Four airstrikes targeted Ternuvate, Novyi Zaporizhzhia, Novouspenivske, and Malynivka. The Russians shelled Prymorske, killing one civilian. An airstrike on Ternove injured one and damaged a school and homes. FPV drones and artillery struck multiple other locations, injuring two more.

Donetsk Oblast: one killed, one injured

On 27 October, the number of confirmed civilian casualties in Donetsk Oblast rose by one killed and one injured, regional head Vadym Filashkin reported. The tally does not include areas such as Mariupol and Volnovakha.

Kharkiv Oblast: man injured in Kupiansk

Kharkiv Oblast authorities reported that Russian strikes hit three settlements using 1 "Geran-2"—it's the Russian designation for the Iranian-designed Shahed-136—and 1 FPV drones. A 41-year-old man was injured in Kupiansk on 26 October and received medical care.

Sumy Oblast

The Russians reportedly hit Sumy Oblast with 10 KAB guided bombs over the past 24 hours and targeted the region with FPV drones.

Russia has started launching jet-powered guided bombs with jet engines against Ukrainian cities deeper behind the lines. According to Yurii Ihnat, head of the communications department of Ukraine’s Air Force Command, these weapons have recently appeared over Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Poltava oblasts. Speaking on Suspilne, Ihnat said the bombs are being used in isolated cases as Russia checks how effectively Ukraine’s air defense can react.

Ihnat explained that the jet-powered bombs are launched from Su-34 aircraft and share flight parameters with cruise missiles, allowing Ukrainian air defense to target them. On 24 October, Air Command “South” confirmed the interception of two long-range guided bombs, while a third fell in an open field without causing damage. 

Ihnat urged Ukrainians not to panic, noting that the new bombs do not yet pose a major threat. He said Russia is experimenting with many aerial weapons, but Ukraine, together with international partners, continues improving its own defense technology.

Regional authorities in Odesa described the attack as a serious new challenge. Odesa Oblast head Oleh Kiper said such strikes present significant danger to civilians and infrastructure. Still, Ukraine’s forces report no casualties or major destruction from the latest incidents.

Russia expands range and production of longer range guided bombs

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) earlier said that Russia has started serial production of upgraded guided bombs with unified planning and correction modules, known as the Grom-1 and Grom-2. Their strike range reaches 150–200 km.

On 24 October, Russian forces used jet-powered guided bombs against Odesa Oblast for the first time.

Before the Odesa strike, Russia had already used similar weapons in attacks on Mykolaiv on 16 October and on Lozova in Kharkiv Oblast on 18 October. The latter bomb reportedly traveled about 130 km. Ukrainian officials see these strikes as part of Moscow’s efforts to refine new munitions for long-range precision attacks.

Four years into Russia's full-scale invasion, elementary school students in Izium, eastern Kharkiv Oblast, have never attended a real classroom.

That changed this week when the city opened its largest underground educational center—a facility that can accommodate 100 students at once, according to SavED charitable foundation.

The space sits beneath a local lyceum in four reinforced rooms. Inside: 45 new computers for a dedicated IT classroom, interactive learning zones, a mini-library, and a sports area. Students will rotate through in shifts after completing their regular online lessons.

The SavED built the center with support from German donors and Ukrainian partners including GEA Ukraine, SQUAD Ukraine, Seven Lions Media, and Roosh.

Olena Andrushok, director of the Izium lyceum, said families have already begun transferring students from other institutions.

"They come to us because we have in-person activities that students sorely lack," Andrushok said. 

The need is acute. Russian forces occupied Izium for over five months in 2022, destroying and looting educational institutions. The city still faces regular shelling because of its proximity to Russian border. Over 2,000 local schoolchildren study exclusively online.

The pattern extends across the frontline. According to savED's 2024 research, 49% of students from frontline regions have studied online for four consecutive years. In Kharkiv Oblast alone, over 147,000 children receive education remotely.

Hanna Novosad, savED co-founder, explained the organization's approach.

"Even a few hours of in-person classes per week in a safe space provide students with a sense of community and socialization," Novosad said. 

Security conditions make underground facilities the only viable option for any form of offline education.

The organization established its first Izium center, "Vulyk" (The Hive), in 2023 with European Commission support. The new facility represents a significant expansion of that initial space.

Russia launched a 130-drone assault overnight on 22-23 October, killing one person and wounding 17 others across multiple regions. The attacks targeted civilian infrastructure including a historic synagogue, a railway station, and emergency responders, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting 92 enemy aircraft by morning.

Kyiv under attack

Russian forces targeted the capital with drones overnight on 23 October, injuring nine people and damaging buildings across three districts. The attacks hit residential buildings, a school, a kindergarten, and a historic synagogue, with fires breaking out at multiple locations.

The most significant damage occurred in Podilskyi district. Debris from downed drones caused fires in three residential buildings and damaged cars in several courtyards, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported. Blast waves shattered windows in multiple buildings, with over 40 windows blown out at one school and partial window damage at a kindergarten. Debris fell near the synagogue.

Nine people were injured in total as of 11 a.m., Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko said. Eight were wounded in Podilskyi district, according to the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office. An 18-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were in serious condition. Five injured people required hospitalization while two received outpatient treatment, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

A drone directly hit the 15th floor of a residential building in Obolonskyi district, Tkachenko said. "In Obolonskyi district, a drone simply flew into the 15th floor of a residential building, in Desnyaskyi—the same direct hit on the 21st floor," he wrote. Blast waves damaged windows in one residential building in Obolonskyi district.

Damage was also recorded in Desnyaskyi district where a multi-story building was hit. Bomb disposal experts removed unexploded drones from an apartment and balcony in Kyiv, Suspilne reported.

Russians hit synagogue

The Brodsky Synagogue in Podil sustained damage during the attack. Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Asman shared footage of the aftermath, noting the strike occurred near where people usually gather for prayer. The attack damaged the synagogue's façade, the roof, and interior spaces, the local authorities said.

The Brodsky Orthodox Jewish synagogue was built in 1898.

Kharkiv rescuer killed in double-tap strike

Russian forces launched a double-tap attack in Zelenyi Hai village, Velykyi Burluk hromada, Kupiansk district. Firefighter Yurii Chystikov died when Russian forces struck rescuers a second time as they extinguished a blaze from the initial drone impact, the State Emergency Service of Kharkiv Oblast reported.

"During the firefighting operation caused by an enemy drone strike in Zelenyi Hai village, Russian terrorists struck again where rescuers were working. The enemy strike took the life of a rescuer, five of his colleagues were injured," the agency said.

Chystikov commanded a unit of the 43rd State Fire and Rescue Department of the 4th State Fire and Rescue Unit of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kharkiv Oblast. He left behind a daughter, Suspilne reported.

Russian drone hits Sumy railway station

Russian forces struck a railway station in Sumy around 3 a.m. on 23 October. The attack injured two railway workers and one civilian woman, local authorities reported.

A 35-year-old man was hospitalized, and a 28-year-old man received aid on site, the Sumy City Military Administration said. A 32-year-old woman was also injured in the Sumy hromada due to the drone attack, the Sumy Oblast Military Administration reported.

The strike damaged rolling stock and railway infrastructure. Two workers of the locomotive crew were hospitalized for examination, Ukrzaliznytsia said. Contact network voltage was absent in certain sections.

Air Force reports intercepting 92 drones

Russia attacked with 130 strike drones of Shahed, Gerbera and other types overnight on 23 October from 7 p.m. on 22 October. The Russians launched aircraft from Kursk, Millierovo, Shatalovo, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia and Chauda in occupied Crimea, the Ukrainian Air Force said. Around 80 of them were Shahed long-range kamikaze drones.

Aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units and drone systems, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine's Defense Forces repelled the air attack.

Air defenses shot down or suppressed 92 enemy drones in the north and east of the country by 8:30 a.m., the Air Force reported.

The attack recorded 25 strike drone hits at 11 locations. Debris from downed drones fell at 11 locations.

The attack was continuing as of 8:44 a.m. with several Russian drones in airspace, the Air Force said.

At least nine civilians were killed and 81 others injured in Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past 24 hours, regional authorities reported on July 8.

Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched 54 drones overnight, including Iranian-designed Shahed-type attack drones, and fired four S-300/400 guided missiles.

Air defenses intercepted 34 drones, while another eight were likely used as radar-jamming decoys. Drones struck five locations across the country.

The overnight assault was repelled using aircraft, electronic warfare, mobile fire groups, and missile defense systems, the military said.

In Kharkiv Oblast, one person was killed and 40 others were injured, including three children, as the city of Kharkiv and seven other settlements came under attack, Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported.

Russian strikes on Zaporizhzhia Oblast injured 20 people and damaged at least 64 houses and apartment buildings, Governor Ivan Fedorov said.

In Donetsk Oblast, three civilians were killed — two in Oleksiyevo-Druzhkivka and one in Novotroitske — and 10 more were injured, according to Governor Vadym Filashkin.

In Sumy Oblast, four people were killed and four more injured in Russian strikes, the local administration reported.

One person was killed and four others were injured in Kherson Oblast, where Russian forces hit residential areas and public infrastructure, damaging two apartment buildings and 17 houses, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.

Three people were injured in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, where Russian troops attacked with first-person-view (FPV) drones, Governor Serhii Lysak said.

The wave of attacks follows Russia's ongoing refusal to accept a ceasefire and comes amid rising use of drone and missile strikes against Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.

The drone and missile assault was countered using aviation, electronic warfare, mobile fire teams, and air defense systems, the military said.

The heaviest casualties occurred in Donetsk Oblast, where seven civilians were killed — four in Kostiantynivka, two in Druzhkivka, and one in Novohryhorivka — and 15 others were injured, Governor Vadym Filashkin reported.

In Kharkiv Oblast, 27 people were injured, including three children, according to Governor Oleh Syniehubov. At least three victims remain hospitalized in moderate condition, and the number may rise.

Russian forces also attacked critical and residential infrastructure in Kherson Oblast, killing two civilians and injuring nine, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.

Two more civilians were killed in Sumy Oblast in a drone strike, local authorities said. Another person was injured. In Odesa Oblast, one civilian was killed and infrastructure was damaged in an attack on the regional capital, Governor Oleh Kiper reported.

In Zaporizhzhia, at least 12 people were injured in separate attacks throughout the day, including 10 during a drone strike on the city center, Governor Ivan Fedorov said.

Five civilians were injured in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast — two women and three men — in the latest wave of attacks, according to Governor Serhii Lysak.

The mass strikes come amid Russia's continued rejection of ceasefire proposals and its growing use of aerial assaults to pressure Ukrainian defenses.

Russian attacks against Ukraine have killed at least six civilians and injured at least 25 others over the past day, regional authorities reported on July 6.

Russian forces launched four S-300 anti-aircraft missiles from Russia's Kursk Oblast and 157 Shahed drones from Russia's Shatalovo, Millerovo, and Primorsk-Akhtarsk airfields, as well as from Russian-occupied Crimea, against Ukraine overnight, according to Ukraine's Air Force.

Ukraine's air defense shot down 98 drones, while another 19 disappeared from radar without causing any damage, according to the statement. Drones that disappear from radar before reaching their targets are often decoys that Russia launches alongside real drones to overwhelm Ukraine's air defense.

In Kharkiv Oblast, Russian forces attacked 13 settlements, killing two people and injuring 11 others, Governor Oleg Syniehubov reported.

An 8-year-old boy was killed, while a 3-year-old boy, a 40-year-old man, and a 36-year-old woman suffered injuries in the village of Odnorobivka.

In the town of Kupiansk, a 59-year-old man was killed, while a 56-year-old man, a 57-year-old woman, and two women aged 65 were injured due to the Russian strikes.

In Kharkiv, the regional capital, a 46-year-old woman and a 2-year-old girl suffered injuries.

The casualties were also reported in the villages of Prykolotne and Shyroke, where a 66-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were injured.

In Donetsk Oblast, Russian forces killed a person in the town of Myrnohrad, and another person was killed in the village of Andriivka, according to Governor Vadym Filashkin.

In Andriivka, two people suffered injuries. Two more people were injured in the town of Siversk, and another one in the city of Pokrovsk.

In Kherson Oblast, Russia targeted 32 settlements, including the regional center of Kherson, over the past day. As a result of the attacks, two people were killed and three others were injured, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported.

In Mykolaiv Oblast, Russian drones attacked the port infrastructure in the regional center of Mykolaiv, damaging the power grid and warehouses.

A 31-year-old woman was injured and hospitalized, while a 35-year-old man, who also suffered injuries in the attack, was treated at the scene, according to Governor Vitalii Kim.

In Sumy Oblast, a Russian FPV drone attacked the Khotyn community, hitting a car and injuring a 49-year-old man, the local military administration reported. He was hospitalized.

In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, a 39-year-old woman was injured in the attack against the Nikopol district. Russia targeted the area with FPV (first-person-view) drones and artillery, according to Governor Serhii Lysak.

In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Russian strikes injured an 89-year-old woman in the village of Yurkivka, the local military administration reported.

In Kyiv Oblast, Russia attacked the Vyshhorod district, injuring a 35-year-old man. He suffered shrapnel wounds, the local military administration reported.

In Poltava Oblast, Russian drones struck the city of Kremenchuk, hitting an enlistment office and a neighboring house. The attack caused a fire, but no casualties were reported, according to the local military administration.

Ukraine's Emergency Service also reported that Russia had carried out double-tap attacks in the cities of Kharkiv and Kherson when rescuers arrived at the impact sites. As a result of the attacks, tanker trucks were damaged, but no rescuers were injured.

Russian troops are ramping up attacks in the sector using large numbers of troops, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said.

Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander-in-chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces, said on July 5 that he had visited the front line in Kharkiv Oblast, warning of a growing threat of renewed Russian offensives in northeastern Ukraine.

According to Syrskyi, Russian troops are ramping up attacks in the sector using large numbers of troops. Over the past week, Ukrainian troops have repelled more than 60 Russian assaults in the area, with "about a dozen battles continuing to rage every day," Syrskyi said.

"Russian forces are trying to overwhelm us with quantity, but we must be vigilant and apply effective tactical and technological solutions to prevent the invaders from advancing," he said in a Telegram post.

Syrskyi said he had reviewed battlefield situation in the area, identifying unit needs, and issuing updated tactical orders.

Syrskyi said he was coordinating closely with Joint Forces Commander Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi.

Kharkiv Oblast, located in northeastern Ukraine, borders Russia and includes the country's second-largest city. It has been a frequent target of Russian assaults and missile attacks since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.

Since Ukraine's successful counteroffensive in the northeast in the fall of 2022, Russia has occupied less than 5% of Kharkiv Oblast, along the region's eastern edge.

In spring 2024, Russian forces opened a new front in the north of Kharkiv Oblast, near the town of Vovchansk, but were pushed back by Ukrainian troops.

The Ukrainian battlefield monitoring platform DeepState reported on July 4 that Russian forces had advanced up to 3 kilometers (1.86 miles) into Kharkiv Oblast near the border village of Milove, opening yet another front in the northeast.

On July 4, Pavlo Shamshyn, spokesperson for Ukraine's operational-tactical group "Kharkiv," said that the number of Russian assault operations in the sector had sharply increased.

Fighting remains intense near the town of Vovchansk and surrounding villages. Shamshin said Russian troops are advancing in small groups of three to 10 soldiers, relying on drone support.

Andrii Pomahaibus, chief of staff of Ukraine's 13th National Guard Khartiia Brigade, said in May that Russia had been massing forces near the border, possibly preparing for a new offensive in the sector.

Despite repeated calls from Ukraine, the U.S., and European leaders for an unconditional ceasefire, Russia has continued ground attacks along the front and long-range missile and drone strikes targeting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, four civilians, two men and two women, were injured in Russian strikes, Governor Serhii Lysak reported.

In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, an 84-year-old man was killed, and two others — a 54-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy — were injured, Governor Ivan Fedorov said.

The latest strikes come as Russia continues to escalate its aerial campaign and reject calls for a ceasefire. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly urged Western partners to bolster Ukraine's air defense capabilities amid persistent drone and missile strikes.

A former deputy mayor for Kharkiv is facing multiple charges related to creating and leading a scheme that allegedly embezzled 5.4 million hryvnias ($130,000) of budget funds allocated for fortifications, law enforcement agencies announced on June 28.

Ukraine's military as well as public officials has seen several corruption scandals since the start of Russia's full-scale war, related to illicit enrichment, money laundering, bribery, and misconduct of the command.

A total of four people, including two company heads and two entrepreneurs, were arrested alongside the former official, the National Police said.

The scheme allegedly involved a shell company procuring purchased materials for fortifications at prices over 30% above market value.

While authorities did not name the former official, Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing law enforcement sources, that the suspect in question is Andrii Rudenko, Kharkiv's Deputy Mayor for Housing and Communal Services between 2015 and 2024.

Authorities did not publicly release the identities of the remaining suspects.

The five suspects are currently facing charges under 17 articles of Ukraine's Criminal Code, with motions filed to impose pre-trial detention without bail.

It was not immediately clear as to the maximum sentence the suspects may receive if found guilty, however, Ukraine's Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said that he will seek for "stolen budget funds must be fully returned to the state."

Law enforcement agents have previously arrested Kharkiv officials with corruption related charges.

In April, authorities charged a total of eight individuals, including local officials and entrepreneurs, accused of colluding with contractors to supply firewood to the military at prices significantly above market value. Several officials and entrepreneurs of housing and utilities departments in several regions, including Kharkiv, were allegedly implicated.

In Kherson Oblast, Russian forces targeted 42 settlements, including the regional center of Kherson. One person was killed, and three others injured, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported.

Russian forces launched a drone attack on Kharkiv overnight on June 24, injuring three people and damaging civilian infrastructure, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

The first explosions were reported around 2:00 a.m. local time, with three civilian injuries confirmed by 4:00 a.m., according to local officials.

Seven Iranian-made Shahed drones were launched at the city, three of which struck their targets, Terekhov said.

Later on June 22, emergency workers found four bodies of people killed when a Russian missile hit a four-story residential building in Kramatorsk. Four people were injured, and one other resident may be trapped under the rubble, the State Emergency Service said.

Russia launched 138 drones overnight, including Iranian-designed Shahed-type suicide drones, Ukraine's Air Force said. Air defenses intercepted 125 drones, while another 41 dropped off radars — likely used as decoys to overload Ukrainian systems.

The assault was repelled using aviation, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups, and anti-aircraft missile systems.
