The fire threatened a village
The blaze risked spreading to where people live. A report of the fire came from the head of a coordination center: the flames had engulfed about a hectare of forest and, driven by wind gusts and heat, could have spread toward a settlement.
Ukrainian and French forces fought together. The Ukrainian State Emergency Service's combined detachment deployed six water tankers on the ground, supported from the air by three French aircraft, two planes, and a helicopter.

The fire was contained
The joint effort stopped the blaze before it reached the village. The fire was extinguished due to the speed of the Ukrainian rescuers and the aviation support, and its spread deeper into the forest and toward the settlement was prevented.
The ground-and-air coordination is standard European wildfire practice: aircraft slow and box in a fire from above while ground crews with tankers put it out, and here Ukrainian tankers worked under French planes.
Ukraine as a contributor, not only a recipient
The deployment is a marker of a larger change in Ukraine's place within Europe. Long the destination for European fire trucks, generators, and rescue equipment sent to help it withstand Russia's war, Ukraine now has its emergency service working alongside allies on its soil.
For a country still under daily attack, sending rescuers to fight fires in France is a statement of belonging, that Ukraine is not only a place Europe helps but a partner that helps back.

The data comes from the battlefield
Avengers Labs was developed by the Center for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies, the team behind the DELTA battle-management system, and most of its data comes from DELTA and is constantly expanded.
The dataset captures the enemy in detail. It contains images of tanks, artillery, air-defense systems, infantry, and aerial targets, including Shahed drones and reconnaissance UAVs, a labeled library of what Russian forces look like from a drone's camera. According to the ministry, the system can significantly speed up the development of AI solutions for unmanned systems.
The AI already works in combat
A system trained on Avengers data is already in the field, analyzing over 100,000 drone video streams a month and detecting about 70% of enemy targets in real time, day and night.
The models enable more autonomous drones. Trained on Avengers data, they support automatic trajectory correction after an operator marks a target, and independent target detection by a drone in a defined area according to set mission logic, steps toward drones that find and strike targets with less human input, according to the ministry.
Partner-country firms can join too
Access extends beyond Ukraine, under vetting. The first Ukrainian defense companies have signed licensing agreements to use Avengers Labs, and companies from Ukraine's partner countries can also join, per the ministry.
The screening guards against leakage to the enemy. To gain access, companies must pass checks confirming no ties to the aggressor state, no business in Russia, no sanctions, and no activity in occupied territories.

Kyiv's only reliable shield against ballistic missiles is the US-made Patriot, and its interceptor stocks are critically low. During mass barrages, dozens of warheads therefore slip through and reach their targets. Only a handful of countries can build such interceptors, and all are short, defense analysts have warned. The AP, for its part, could not independently verify Brovdi's numbers.
Ballistic missiles remain the hardest to stop
That shortfall has already turned lethal. Intensified strikes made July the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since April 2022, the UN human-rights office in Ukraine documented. Air defenses downed just 29 of the 195 ballistic missiles Russia fired that month, roughly 15%. Another 40 fell short on their own. Yet the largest single-night launches recorded so far run to only a few dozen. That is well below the salvo of 77 that Brovdi describes, and a fraction of the 200 Moscow is reaching for.

Production running ahead of plan
His warning tracks Ukrainian intelligence. Russia's defense industry is overfulfilling its monthly targets, hitting 110% to 120% on the main missile types. So said Deputy Military Intelligence Chief Vadym Skibitskyi in an interview with RBC-Ukraine. He put July output for the Kh-101 cruise missile at 140% of plan, the Kalibr at 111%, and the Kh-35 at 200%. A pause in strikes, he judged, is unlikely.
The pivot to jet-powered drones
Moscow's factories are also retooling around drones. Russia plans to assemble 11,000 strike drones of various types in August 2026, Skibitskyi said. That mix spans the Geran-1 through Geran-5, the Harpia, and several Gerbera variants. Output dipped in July as the industry shifted toward the turbojet Geran-4 and Geran-5.
Those jet models fly faster and demand different interceptors or short-range air defense. They already made up half of one recent attack. The concentration of jet-powered Shaheds, meanwhile, has climbed 2.5 times in recent weeks, Brovdi added. Taken together, the assessments point one way: more missiles and faster drones, launched in larger waves, against defenses Ukraine is scrambling to rebuild.

The target was a rail supply line to the front
ATESH said the sabotage hit a link in Russia's military logistics chain. The locomotive was part of the rail transport that moves Russian military cargo, and it was bound for the Kupiansk direction, one of the active sectors of the front in Kharkiv Oblast.
Russia depends heavily on railways to supply its forces. Its army moves ammunition, fuel, weapons, and heavy equipment to the front largely by rail, so the locomotives and the lines they run on are critical arteries of its war effort. A partisan network can reach them behind the front lines at a vulnerable point.
One damaged locomotive slows the whole chain
ATESH framed the value of the strike in terms of the cascade it sets off. The loss of even one link in the mainline causes delays in the delivery of ammunition, fuel, weapons, and heavy equipment.
Those delays compound at the front. When rear supply operations are interrupted, units lose combat effectiveness and suffer significant personnel losses, ATESH said, casting a single sabotaged locomotive as a blow that reaches the soldiers, depending on what it was carrying.
The strike fits ATESH's partisan campaign
Euromaidan Press cannot independently verify the Voronezh sabotage, which is ATESH's own account. But rail sabotage is a documented feature of the war behind Russian lines, and the movement's focus on the logistics that feed the front reflects a real vulnerability in an army that runs on rail.

The Committee for the Defense of Democracy organized the nationwide campaign. The rallies were also meant to show solidarity with those experiencing violence and discrimination.
A slogan from Auschwitz
The phrase that became the demonstrations' slogan, "Don't be indifferent," was spoken by Marian Turski on 27 January 2020, during commemorations of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Turski, a former prisoner of the camp, used the speech to urge people not to accept cruel treatment of minorities, violations of human rights, and historical falsehoods.
Recent incidents
The number of attacks on Ukrainians in Poland has sharply increased in recent weeks. In Kraków, a 39-year-old man who had verbally insulted two people of Ukrainian nationality turned himself in at a police station on 8 August and was detained, according to reporting cited a day before the Sunday protests.
Separately, Tobiasz Bocheński, a member of the European Parliament and former candidate for mayor of Warsaw, said that if the Law and Justice party came to power, it would ensure the deportation of Ukrainian men of conscription age who are not legally employed in Poland. Poland's Ministry of Interior and Administration said such statements amount to populism.

What Zelenskyy said in Belgrade
The exchange was reciprocal: Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine's refusal to recognize Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence, while Vučić reiterated Serbia's backing for Ukraine's territorial integrity, including Crimea.
At the 8 August joint news conference in Belgrade, Zelenskyy said Ukraine's position had not shifted. "Our position on what you said, about the unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence, remains unchanged," he said. "We have always emphasized this, and Ukraine's policy has not changed. Likewise, we are grateful to our partners for respecting Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty, including, of course, Crimea's belonging to Ukraine. This position of Serbia is also unchanged, including in the UN General Assembly."
Vučić's position
Vučić, in turn, tied his support for Ukraine's territorial integrity to Serbia's own stance on Kosovo. "We support the UN Charter, UN resolutions, and that means the territorial integrity of all UN members, which means the territorial integrity of Ukraine as well," he said. "Likewise, we are very grateful to Ukraine for supporting the territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia. And as far as we are concerned, we will continue this principled policy. There are no 'buts' about this. This is being stated very clearly and firmly now."
Kosovo's recognition status
Kosovo is a partially recognized state on the Balkan Peninsula, in the Kosovo and Metohija region, with a population of about 1.7 million, according to Suspilne. Its capital and largest city is Prishtina. Kosovo is recognized by 22 of the European Union's 27 member states. Ukraine does not recognize Kosovo's independence.

The strikes hit extraction across the country
Russia targeted the sites where Ukraine pulls gas from the ground. On the night of 9 August, the extraction assets of Ukrnafta and a company drilling site came under massive attack, with Russian forces using dozens of strike drones against the extraction infrastructure.
The damage stopped production. There is substantial destruction at the site; part of the equipment has been put out of commission, and the asset's operation has been halted. However, safety measures meant that workers at the attacked facilities were unhurt.
Fuel stations and production sites were also hit
The campaign extended to Naftogaz's retail and production network. On 7 and 8 August, seven UKRNAFTA filling complexes in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv oblasts came under drone attack, and a worker at one station was injured and is in hospital receiving care.
Central Ukraine was struck, too. On 8 August, Russia attacked Naftogaz production facilities in the central part of the country with jet-powered drones, and the facility suffered serious destruction, though staff were in shelter at the time of the strike.
The target is the heating season
The strikes match the warning from First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, who has said Russia's aim this winter is to destroy the systems Ukrainians need to survive the cold, from power to water, Politico reported. Damaging gas production now, months before winter, is meant to leave Ukraine unable to heat itself when temperatures drop, turning the coming season into another front against civilians in Russia's war.

At the same time, Ukrainian drone crews increasingly aim at the air-defense batteries, radars, and jammers in the occupied territory and the adjacent Russian regions — the hardware Moscow relies on to keep those drones out. Such attacks make subsequent Ukrainian strikes more successful.
Satellites caught the before and after
Satellite images published by the OSINT community Dnipro Osint show the site cleared at Gelendzhik, in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. The Volna Kupol Garant complex is gone. Researchers called it the third destruction of this jammer recorded in open sources. The strike landed on the grounds of military unit 2156, the Novorossiysk border detachment of Russia's FSB Border Service.

Ukraine has knocked out these jammers before. The complex's weakness is its own power: beaming enough energy to reach a satellite makes it loud and easy to find.

The battery that guarded Putin's coast
Overnight on 8–9 August, Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces struck the S-400 Triumf system at Gelendzhik, on Russia's Krasnodar Krai coast of the Black Sea. The 413th Reid Regiment carried out the strike, and the position burned for three hours beside seaside catacombs, Brovdi wrote. Brovdi said the battery had fired six missiles on the morning of 8 August, between 9:25 and 12:51.
Gelendzhik sits on the Black Sea headland that holds the palace complex, long reported as Putin's private residence.
Russia has turned the S-400 into a terror weapon against Kyiv, firing its ballistic 48N6DM missiles at the capital. Those missiles reach ground targets more than 200 km away. Bryansk Oblast borders Ukraine and is within reach of Kyiv. Gelendzhik lies far across the Black Sea, well beyond it, so its battery worked as air defense over the coast.

Overnight on 6 July, during a Russian mass strike on Ukraine, the 413th Reid operators found and destroyed an S-400 launcher in Bryansk Oblast, the unit said. That launcher was firing ballistic missiles at ground targets. The regiment called Bryansk a standard launch area for ballistic missiles aimed at Kyiv, and said the strike saved Ukrainian civilian lives.
Four more systems down inside Russia
Ukrainian drones destroyed four more Russian air-defense assets the same night, all on Russian soil, Brovdi said. Crews hit a Tor system in Rostov Oblast and a Pantsir-S1 point-defense system at Yeysk in Krasnodar Krai. They also struck two radar stations in Rostov Oblast, the Podlyot-K1 and the Kasta 2E2. The 1st Separate Center of the drone forces ran the inland strikes, the Unmanned Systems Forces reported.

Three shadow-fleet ships hit at sea
At sea, the SBS drone pilots hit three vessels of Russia's shadow fleet in the Black Sea — one oil tanker and two dry-cargo ships. That fleet is the aging tankers and cargo ships that move Russian oil around Western sanctions. The 413th Reid Regiment and the 412th Nemesis Brigade carried out the strikes.
Ukraine's drones had already hit 12 more shadow-fleet ships across the Black and Azov seas earlier in August.

Russia hits Ukrainian cities and their apartment blocks night after night, pairing cheap attack drones with a growing volume of cruise missiles that thinning air defenses struggle to stop. Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, is situated in northeastern Ukraine, with its outskirts roughly 25-30 km from the Russian border, resulting in regular Russian attacks on locals.
A missile through the upper floors
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported the strike on Saltivka shortly after 07:00. He said Russia had hit a multi-apartment residential building. Minutes later he confirmed the blast destroyed floors 7 through 10, with wounded people inside.
Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, first described a Russian drone strike that killed two. His administration later clarified that a missile hit the high-rise, and that Russia also struck an office building nearby.
Residents were trapped behind the collapse, and crews began a rescue operation. Firefighters brought seven people down from the upper floors, the State Emergency Service reported. The destroyed ceilings sat between the seventh and tenth floors.

As the rescue got underway, Russia struck again. Terekhov said a neighboring high-rise was hit, writing that Russia "is deliberately striking residential buildings" and urging people to shelter. A third impact followed in one of the district's parks.

Russia regularly employs the double-tap tactic — striking a site, then hitting it again once rescuers arrive — to maximize casualties among first responders.
Two dead, 21 wounded, a boy of five among them
Terekhov counted a dozen wounded at first, then confirmed two people killed at the site. Syniehubov gave the fuller account: two men, aged 50 and 66, killed, and at least 21 people injured.
Among the wounded was a five-year-old boy. 11 people suffered blast injuries and two had carbon monoxide poisoning. Another eight, including a child, had acute stress reactions, and medics hospitalized four.

As the drone war over Ukraine ramped up in 2022 and 2023, most Russian FPVs were wireless models. And most heavier one-way attack drones navigated via satellite. Both classes of drone could be jammed. A cottage industry of Ukrainian electronic warfare producers sprung up. Each firm offered some variation of a radio noisemaker that can ground or misdirect wireless and satellite-guided drones.
The jamming worked. Combined with kinetic defenses—guns and missiles—and add-on protections such as mesh, cages and netting, the jamming blunted the impact of Russia's drone arsenal. But the Russians adapted. The turning point came in the spring of 2025, when Russia's elite Rubicon Center drone group led the counterattack against Ukrainian troops occupying parts of Kursk Oblast in western Russia.
Rubicon's fiber optic FPVs wreaked havoc on Ukrainian forces in the Kursk salient, damaging or destroying hundreds of trucks and other vehicles in the span of a few weeks. Starving for supplies and in danger of being cut off, the Ukrainians retreated.
But the Russian adaptation was just beginning. The Russians are now launching 10,000 FPVs a day. And in certain key sectors, 60% of the FPVs were fiber optic models, according to Tatarigami. The Ukrainians can shoot down these drones and block them with armor, nets and earthworks. They can also strike at the Russian FPV teams before the Russians can launch their FPVs.
But there's one thing the Ukrainians can't do: they can't jam the drones.

Jamming continued to work against many one-way attack drones that must travel hundreds or even thousands of kilometers—too far for optical fiber. Another turning point came in February, when Elon Musk's Starlink bricked Russia's thousands of smuggled and stolen satellite terminals, some of which Russian forces used to control the approximately 5,000 Geran attack drones they launch every month.
The Starlink shutdown compelled Russian developers to accelerate the transformation of the one-way attack drone force. "Russia's second adaptation was mesh networking, routing data through mesh modems to keep communications alive across both short and long-range drones," Tatarigami explained.
It's possible to jam a mesh radio network, but it's hard. Every drone in a given network is a node. It's not enough to jam a few of them; you have to jam all of them.

Je peinais à rester concentrée sur des conférences (le TDAH était très loin d’être sur mon radar !) et j’ai fait l’expérience, un peu par hasard, qu’en prenant des notes ça allait beaucoup mieux. Pas très étonnant en fait, après avoir fait ça quasi quotidiennement sur les bancs de l’uni.
Alors oui, si on se dit que je dois peut-être “ré-entraîner” mon cerveau à certaines choses, lire en prenant des notes pourrait être une pratique intéressante à revisiter.
Ce qui est marrant, c’est que je n’ai pas arrêté de lire des choses “difficiles”, après mes études. Mais j’ai lâché la discipline de la prise de notes, en partie je pense car elle n’était plus forcément nécessaire en vue des raisons par lesquelles je lisais, aussi un peu en partie parce que c’est un effort en plus, et parce qu’avec les supports numériques dans lesquels on peut “rechercher”, les notes semblent un peu moins utiles — en tant que résumé permettant d’accéder au contenu.
Mais le travail cognitif de tri de l’information, de synthèse, d’organisation des idées, il se produit. Et au fil de toutes ces dernières années, j’ai parfois senti, en toile de fond, que je pourrais perdre un peu en rigueur, que les choses que j’avais lues et comprises finissaient par manquer de précision, qu’avec le temps il me manquait quelques bouts — rien de très grave — et qu’évidemment je n’allais que rarement replonger dans la source (si tant est que j’étais capable de la retrouver, malgré les miracles de la loupe et des images…)
Alors oui, écrire comme exercice, prendre des notes, pourquoi pas. Je me dis que je pourrais mettre au propre mes notes IGB par exemple. Il y a quelques articles écrits par un psychologue français sur la question de “l’énergie” dans le TDAH qui m’intéressent et qui méritent une lecture attentive, d’autant plus que je suis aux prises avec ces questions de “gestion de l’énergie” de façon criante depuis mon accident — je suis d’ailleurs au milieu d’un programme en ergothérapie sur la gestion.
“Journaler”, c’est aussi une pratique que je souhaite reprendre. Ma mémoire épisodique est souvent un peu confuse, et c’est pire depuis mon accident. Prendre quelques notes en fin de journée m’aide à ne pas me sentir en dérive temporelle. Il y a dix-huit mois, quand j’ai pris deux semaines de vacances pour réaménager mon chez-moi, j’ai eu envie de me mettre au scrapbooking. Peut-être qu’il y a une idée à creuser là. Écrire à la main, c’est peut-être aussi quelque chose qui pourrait être pour moi une forme de “repos”. Le rythme plus lent, la linéarité, je sens en effet que c’est différent de taper ou dicter sur l’ordi ou le tél. Chaque mot écrit est écrit.
