Ce fut plus ardu pour la formation rimouskoise dans la deuxième partie, nettement à l’avantage des locaux qui ont eu le meilleur par 9-2. Les bâtons ont été plutôt silencieux avec seulement quatre coups sûrs par rencontre. Le partant au monticule, Félix-Antoine Beaudet, est le lanceur de décision.
La série 3 de 5 se poursuivra vendredi prochain, 4 septembre à 20 h, à Rimouski. Si nécessaire, les parties numéro 4 et 5 seront jouées le lendemain, à 12 h et 15 h, également au Complexe Guillaume-Leblanc.

Un match réunissant différentes personnalités sportives de la région se tiendra aussi au cours de la journée.
Plusieurs associations sportives s’associent aussi au Festi-Bob, dont l’Association du hockey mineur de Rimouski, le Fury de Rimouski, le Club de patinage artistique les Étincelles de Trois-Pistoles et l’Association du baseball mineur de Trois-Pistoles.
« L’inscription aux activités sportives coûte 15 $ par personne. Les jeunes membres d’un organisme sportif partenaire pourront récupérer ce montant par l’entremise de leur association après l’événement. Le concept prévoit également une formule permettant aux jeunes d’amasser des sommes pour eux-mêmes et leur association en encourageant d’autres participants à s’inscrire », indique le fondateur du Festi-Bob, Serge Dionne.
Deux ex-académiciens sur scène
La programmation se poursuivra en soirée avec les prestations de Yoann Guay et Olivier Bergeron, deux anciens participants de Star Académie.
« L’humoriste rimouskois Sébastien Haché assurera l’animation du spectacle, ponctué de capsules vidéo inédites mettant en vedette Patrice Lemieux, personnage créé et interprété par Daniel Savoie », explique monsieur Dionne.

Le Festi-Bob a vu le jour en 2024 à l’initiative de Serge Dionne, un ami d’enfance du regretté Bob Bissonnette, pour soutenir la pratique du sport et des arts chez les jeunes qui composent avec certaines difficultés financières ou personnelles.
Depuis 2018, la Fondation Bob Bissonnette a remis près de 1 M $, dont environ 70 000 $ dans l’Est-du-Québec, à de jeunes sportifs et artistes de la province afin de leur permettre de pratiquer leur loisir malgré les difficultés auxquelles ils peuvent être confrontés.

I was taken aback when, instead of the usual colorful graphics and info, I was greeted with a rudimentary-looking homepage that displayed only scores and rankings.
At first I thought it was a glitch of some sort. But sadly, no. As it turns out, Tennis.com, originally the online site of Tennis Magazine, is under a complete overhaul and will no longer be the home of esteemed writers such as Steve Tignor and Pete Bodo, robbing fans of unique and personal takes on the sport. It appears the longest running American tennis-specific publication is no longer alive in any form.

Is college football healthy? It’s a seductive question, one that now comes up every year around this time. Actually, it never recedes, so it’s just with the sport all the time. It’s also the wrong question, because whoever answers it is free to choose their own adventure. The television ratings are way up there in the galaxy. Money rains down on dozens of programs and thousands of players. Marching bands continue to march. Yet a lot of teams are stranded by realignment or an economic inability to keep up in a transfer arms race. Their fans – actually any team’s fans – may be exhausted by escalating asks for their dollars.
If you have been checked out of the sport for a while ahead of this weekend’s first set of games, you may feel like your body has been frozen for a few decades. Indiana, (yes, really) are the defending national champs, fresh off a 16-0 season that puts them on the list of the handful of best teams ever. Texas Tech, once likened to Siberia by a former coach who is now a US senator, are the fiercest program in the Big 12. Ole Miss are good for the first time since integration. At least Ohio State and Georgia are still powerhouses.

« Je me suis battue contre ça pendant un bout de temps parce que ça vient avec le fait que le corps change. On ne fait pas ce sport en voulant avoir un corps énormément musclé, mais ce sont les conséquences de ce qu’on aime faire qui apportent ce corps. Il y a encore du jugement par rapport à ça », dit-elle.
En préparation pour un marathon en septembre dernier, Jo-Annie s’est rendue au Championnat provincial de Strongman Corp Québec qui se tenait à Granby et est repartie avec la première position.
« Ça m’a valu une participation au Arnold Masters Strongman World Championship à Columbus, en Ohio, en mars. C’est une compétition internationale et j’ai aussi gagné dans la catégorie 82 kg chez les 40 ans et plus (master). C’était une compétition amateur. Il y a des gens qui rêvent pendant des années d’y aller et je n’ai même pas eu le temps d’espérer y aller. Les filles contre qui je compétitionnais étaient mes idoles », exprime la femme de 43 ans.
Avec les pros
Après cette victoire, l’athlète est devenue professionnelle. « Nous sommes 30 au Canada à avoir notre carte. Je dois faire au moins une compétition professionnelle par année. Il n’y a pas de catégories d’âge ni de poids. Ce sont les meilleures au monde. Tout s’est passé tellement vite que c’est encore difficile pour moi de réaliser. »

Jo-Annie a par la suite pris part à une première compétition professionnelle à Fredericton où elle a terminé troisième. Elle s’est donc qualifiée pour le Championnat canadien professionnel de femmes fortes qui aura lieu, en septembre, à Québec ainsi que pour le Championnat nord-américain de Victoriaville qui se tenait les 25 et 26 juillet.
« C’était les meilleures femmes aux États-Unis et au Canada. J’étais la plus petite, la plus vieille et la moins expérimentée. Les charges étaient lourdes et il y avait des épreuves que je n’avais jamais faites. Le manque d’expérience ne m’a pas aidé, mais j’ai quand même terminé 11e sur 13 », indique-t-elle.
Sport à découvrir
Pour illustrer son sport, Jo-Annie cite en exemple Louis Cyr, Hugo Girard et Jean-François Caron.
« C’est de la force brute. Il faut lever et déplacer des charges lourdes. Les épreuves varient d’une compétition à l’autre. On peut lever une automobile ou tourner un pneu de 500 livres. C’est un entraînement de 2 h 30 cinq à six jours par semaine et la nutrition est calculée. Nous sommes de vrais athlètes. J’aime l’adrénaline que ça apporte et l’estime de soi. Je peux dire que je suis capable de faire un soulevé de terre de 460 livres. »

Avec des amis, elle a démarré l’organisme La Force de l’Est qui offre des démonstrations pour faire connaître le sport. Un membre, Keven Malenfant, propose un service d’entraînement. Les hommes forts et femmes fortes de la région peuvent également s’entraîner au Santé 2000 Le Club.
Depuis qu’elle a commencé son parcours de femme forte, Jo-Annie Paquet est particulièrement fière de conserver une discipline.
« La compétition est un cadeau. Ce sont tous les efforts que tu as donnés avant qui vont rapporter. C’est aussi une fierté de pouvoir faire vivre ça à mes amis et ma famille », conclut-elle.

After a decade-long absence, the beloved Philadelphia International Cycling Classic is set to return this weekend, with some of the world’s best bike-racing teams taking to the famous circuit around the city’s leafy Art Museum, Manayunk, and Roxborough areas on Sunday.
The race is one of just a handful of events on American soil sanctioned by UCI, cycling’s international governing body, and will feature squads such as EF Education EasyPost, Lidl-Trek, Lotto-Intermarché, and Jayco AlUla in the men’s race, and powerhouses CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto and Human Powered Health in the women’s event. It is classified as a 1.1 race, meaning it’s two levels below the top-flight WorldTour, whose races include the Tour de France, Paris-Roubaix, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
The Philadelphia Cycling Classic will be livestreamed on Channel 6 ABC, with the women’s race kicking off at 8.30am Eastern. The men will follow at 12.30pm. Of course, you could always trek to Philly and become part of the party yourself. I highly recommend snagging a spot somewhere along The Wall.

Jakob Tremblay a fait la distance au monticule accordant cinq coups sûrs et réussissant huit retraits sur des prises. Il a fait preuve d’un bon contrôle utilisant 98 lancers, dont 75 prises. Lou Dumont encaisse la défaite.
Jérémy Henley a été le seul à frapper deux coups sûrs pour les gagnants. Alexandre Bérubé a fait produire trois points.
Rappelons que dans l’autre demi-finale de la division Est, les Monarques de Montmagny (5-17 en saison) ont facilement écarté le RDL Hyundai de Saint-Pascal (8-8 en saison) par deux victoires à zéro. Ils ont gagné par des pointages de 13-1 et 10-2.
