Ms. Slemmer was killed in 1995 by Christa Pike, whose execution in Tennessee was botched on Wednesday. Her family celebrated what would have been her 51st birthday last month.
Gov. Bill Lee, who is limited to two terms, has announced an investigation into Christa Pike’s failed execution. His likely successor, Marsha Blackburn, has called for the return of the electric chair.
