Republicans had hoped that a Supreme Court decision allowing party committees to coordinate with candidates would also entitle them to lower ad rates. On Tuesday, an appeals court said otherwise.
Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia was one of four Democratic candidates who prevailed in a lawsuit restricting ad prices for party committees. Republicans, whose committees are flush with cash, were seeking lower rates available only to candidates.
Republicans still have some clear advantages on the map, but President Trump’s unpopularity has opened the door for an outcome that once seemed far-fetched.
