The bodies are believed to have been overlooked when a cemetery at the current site of the governor’s residence in Bismarck was moved in the 1870s, during the capital’s early settlement period.
A spokesman for Gov. Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota said that human remains from an old cemetery that were found near the governor’s residence would be “treated with appropriate care and respect.”
