Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says his party will introduce a bill this fall that would make it harder for people accused of certain crimes to get bail.

Poilievre says the proposal would create a new category of major offences that includes things like sexual assault, kidnapping, human trafficking, home invasion and firearms charges.

Saskatchewan premier calls on Prime Minister Carney to meet with China’s Xi to resolve canola tariffs

China imposed a tariff of nearly 76 per cent on Canadian canola last week.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says he wants Prime Minister Mark Carney to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to resolve the trade issues that have led to steep tariffs on Canadian canola products.

Moe says he will be in China in the next couple of weeks to engage with officials, and says he thinks Carney and Xi will have opportunities to meet in the coming months at international summits.
