Ukrainian attack targets Russian facility 800 kilometers from border that supplies gunpowder manufacturers

Ukrainian strike drones attacked a chemical plant in Russia’s Ivanovo Oblast that supplies products for missile engine production, according to reports from the Astra news resource.

At least two strike drones hit a supply warehouse at the Dmitrievsky Chemical Plant, Astra reported on 26 May.

Local residents reported loud rumbling and unusual sounds in the sky during the attack. The Ivanovo oblast’s operational headquarters said that drone debris was found at the enterprise’s industrial zone.

The plant is located approximately 800 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border. Ukraine’s military has not commented on the attack yet.

The facility reportedly is one of Russia’s largest producers of chemical and petrochemical products for civilian markets. However, the plant also participates in supplying Russia’s defense industrial complex.

The enterprise primarily supplies its products to the Kazan State Gunpowder Plant, a defense facility located in Kazan, Tatarstan Republic. This plant specializes in manufacturing gunpowder, explosives, and related products for both military and civilian needs.

According to open data, the Dmitrievsky Chemical Plant has 14 contracts worth about 52, 000 000 rubles (over $652,000). These contracts involve selling chemicals necessary for producing gunpowder and explosives, mainly for defense needs.

The plant also supplies products to the Kamensky Combine. These shipments include industrial explosives such as TNT, RDX, and HMX. The facility also provides chemical components for ammunition, polymers, and special dual-use chemical substances. This contract is valued at about 50,000 000 rubles (over $627,000).

Ukrainian Defense Forces previously struck the same plant in December 2024.

Earlier reports indicated that Ukrainian strike drones hit the Azot chemical enterprise in Novomoskovsk, Tula Oblast. The Azot chemical complex in Novomoskovsk is one of Russia’s largest chemical industry enterprises. The facility specializes in producing nitrogen fertilizers, including ammonia, urea, and other chemical products.
