Réunis en assemblée générale, les membres ont d’abord reçu une mise à jour du dossier avant que le conseil d’administration leur présente sa recommandation.

Les membres du Club de curling de Rimouski ont donné leur aval à l’unanimité, ce mardi 8 septembre, au projet de relocalisation de leurs activités dans une nouvelle annexe qui sera construite au Club de golf L’Empress en vue de la saison 2027-2028.
Réunis en assemblée générale, les membres ont d’abord reçu une mise à jour du dossier avant que le conseil d’administration leur présente sa recommandation.
Des partenaires majeurs viendront combler le manque à gagner d’environ 650 000 $ nécessaire pour boucler le montage financier. Leur identité devrait être dévoilée d’ici le 20 septembre.
Les joueurs pourront utiliser les installations déjà en place au club de golf, notamment le restaurant, le bar, les vestiaires et les salles de toilettes. L’arrivée du curling permettrait aussi à L’Empress de poursuivre ses activités à longueur d’année.
La facture du projet, d’abord évaluée à 3,3 M$, a depuis été ramenée à environ 2,2 M$.

Au début du mois d’août, le Club de curling avait confirmé avoir reçu une réponse de la Ville de Rimouski à sa demande d’aide financière, mais le montant accordé n’avait toutefois pas été dévoilé.
Le temps presse
Le temps commençait aussi à jouer contre le projet, puisque le Club de curling souhaitait faire avancer le dossier avant l’entrée en vigueur de nouvelles orientations gouvernementales en aménagement du territoire. Celles-ci auraient pu compliquer la construction d’un bâtiment près d’une voie ferrée.

Les démarches se poursuivaient également pour la vente du terrain actuel du Club de curling, dans le district Nazareth. Un promoteur souhaite y réaliser un projet immobilier.
Le projet de déménagement à L’Empress avait été relancé au printemps après l’arrivée d’un nouveau groupe de propriétaires au club de golf.

At the end of more than four and a half hours of escalating drama inside the world’s biggest tennis stadium, a devastated Alex Michelsen fell into Frances Tiafoe’s arms just outside the tramlines, sobbing uncontrollably. Tiafoe took his younger countryman in an embrace and held him there for 23 seconds, the victor consoling the vanquished in the aftermath of an extraordinary comeback that had carried him, somehow, into the US Open semi-finals.

« Marc-Antoine est un multiple champion provincial sur la distance du demi-marathon et il a remporté la course l’an passé. Il est l’un des meilleurs coureurs du Québec actuellement et il va tenter de défendre son titre », explique monsieur Bolduc.
Coureurs élites
Depuis plusieurs années, le Marathon de Rimouski offre le programme élite qui permet d’attirer des athlètes de haut niveau.
« Nous ne voulions pas nécessairement attirer des coureurs internationaux, mais surtout de bons coureurs québécois. En marathon, contrairement aux 5 ou 10 km, tu ne peux pas en faire 10 par année. Souvent, les athlètes québécois ne choisissent pas les marathons en province parce qu’ils sont vallonnés et ce n’est pas propice à faire des temps rapides », indique le coordonnateur.
En offrant des récompenses intéressantes pour les gagnants, le comité organisateur du Marathon de Rimouski souhaite ainsi rejoindre ces coureurs.
« Je pense que la réputation commence à se faire. Le gagnant chez les hommes en marathon se fait 2 500 $, le premier québécois aussi fait 2 500 $ et nous avons ajouté des bonus de performance. Si un coureur remporte la course en moins de 2 h 25, nous ajoutons 1 000 $. C’est un incitatif. Dépendamment des temps de qualifications, nous pouvons payer l’hôtel. Ils sont traités comme des athlètes de niveau élite. »

Lors des deux dernières années, l’événement accueillait le championnat provincial sur la distance du marathon. Il sera présenté à Québec cette année.
« Nous voulons que notre événement soit intéressant autant pour les athlètes élites que ceux qui, à l’opposé du spectre, font l’épreuve Pace du bonheur et qui peuvent faire un marathon sans se préoccuper du chronomètre. C’est fait avec une philosophie complètement différente. Nous avons aussi le 1 km pour les enfants. Le programme élite est un ajout sans pénaliser les autres catégories de participants », affirme Sébastien Bolduc.
Près de 4 000 participants
L’événement devrait accueillir entre 3 800 et 3 900participants pour les différentes distances, soit le marathon (42,2 km), le demi-marathon (21,1 km), le 10 km, le 5 km, le 1 km et le Pace du bonheur. De nombreux visiteurs seront présents pour l’événement.
« Normalement, nous avons plus de 50 % des participants qui proviennent de l’extérieur de la région de Rimouski. Nous avons des gens de partout au Québec. L’an dernier, nous en avions de sept ou huit autres provinces et même d’autres pays », exprime monsieur Bolduc.
Bien qu’elles soient difficilement quantifiables, ce dernier souligne que les retombées du Marathon de Rimouski sont importantes pour la ville.
« On pense souvent aux retombées économiques grâce aux visiteurs, mais il y a aussi les retombées qui ne sont pas seulement pendant l’événement. Il y a des gens qui participent et qui changent leur mode de vie. Ils vont consommer des services en entraînement ou en physiothérapie et ils vont s’acheter des espadrilles. Les retombées sont importantes sur plusieurs semaines ou plusieurs mois. »
Le coordonnateur invite les Rimouskois à aller encourager les participants le 13 septembre.
« Il y aura des arrivées tout l’avant-midi et même jusqu’à une bonne partie de l’après-midi. C’est impressionnant de voir arriver les meilleurs athlètes, mais c’est tout aussi impressionnant et émouvant de voir arriver des gens qui font la course parce qu’ils ont vaincu le cancer, qu’ils ont perdu du poids ou qu’ils réussissent leur premier marathon. C’est rassembleur et c’est gratuit. »
Les inscriptions en ligne se terminent le vendredi 11 septembre et celles sur place seront acceptées le samedi 12 septembre à la place des Anciens-Combattants.

A University of Iowa marching band member has been taken off life support after collapsing during extreme heat at the Hawkeyes’ season-opening football game on Saturday, his family said.
Derek Phillips, a third-year student from Dubuque, Iowa, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest shortly before the band was scheduled to perform its half-time show against Northern Illinois at Kinnick Stadium, according to a message posted to his Instagram account by his family.

With the shadow of the 2026 World Cup hanging over the league and a potential set of rule changes looming, Major League Soccer’s summer transfer window was one defined by uncertainty, diverse strategies and record spending. It was the fourth transfer window since MLS allowed clubs to purchase players from other clubs using traditional transfer fees rather than general allocation money (GAM), the intraleague currency system. The new rule, which is now being used more frequently, has helped account for rapid growth in league expenditure, as has increased GAM allotted to each club.
These trends have been seen broadly over the last two seasons, but this past window took it to a new level, smashing the previous record for summer spending. This summer, MLS teams spent 65% more year-over-year, with a total of nearly $190m spent, accounting for 45% of the 2026 total. The above factors combined to create one of the most consequential transfer windows in MLS history, which may give a glimpse into the league’s future trajectory.
