Violent Extremist Who Targeted Young People Online Is Sentenced to 77 Years

A federal judge in Tennessee this week sentenced a man to 77 years in prison for having child pornography as a member of groups that officials say glorified mass murder and urged young people to commit self-harm.

Most sex crimes are prosecuted by state and local authorities. The federal agents appeared to be using civil rights statutes to scrutinize Mr. Swalwell’s conduct, a person familiar with the case said.
