The Iran-backed Houthi militia, which controls parts of Yemen, has in the past blockaded the Red Sea by threatening a choke point crucial to Saudi oil exports and global shipping.

The Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen accused Saudi Arabia of striking Yemen’s main international airport in a dispute over an Iranian plane that tried to land in the capital, Sana.
