Cubs’ Bregman suffers reported facial fractures after being hit by foul ball in ‘terrible accident’

  • 32-year-old hopes to return for postseason

Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman suffered facial fractures when he was hit in the head by a foul ball on Sunday, according to ESPN.

Bregman was standing in the on-deck circle preparing for his at-bat when his teammate Michael Busch checked his swing and fouled off a pitch from the Cincinnati Reds’ Luis Mey. The ball struck Bregman in the face, and he immediately jogged toward the Cubs’ dugout with his hand covering the left side of his face. He was taken to hospital for X-rays and CT scans.

‘A terrible, terrible accident’: Cubs’ Bregman undergoes CT scans after taking foul ball to face

Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman was taken to the hospital for tests after being struck in the face by a foul ball while standing in front of the on-deck circle during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Bregman underwent X-rays and CT scans, and the team were hopeful he would be able ⁠to travel back to ⁠Chicago on Sunday ​night. The Cubs are off Monday before beginning a three-game home series against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.
