Officials said that the body was spotted in Olympic National Park in Washington State on Monday, but that it was pinned behind a surge of water and was hard to reach.

Their bodies were found near the summit of Mount Katahdin, at the end of the Appalachian Trail, officials said, after a search that began on Monday.

Videos circulating on social media showed visitors rushing to descend the mountain as volcanic plumes rose overhead.
