The Canadian prime minister has said his government will match U.S. tariffs "dollar for dollar."

A federal judge said the indefinite pause, which affected nationals of countries in every corner of the globe, ran afoul of antidiscrimination protections.

“I think the last thing we need right now, as our economy is getting back on its feet, is a trade war with Canada,” the former vice president told CNN.

“It’s a big setback,” one analyst said, noting that other countries unhappy with the president’s trade deals are probably watching closely.

An array of imports are subject to the new 50 percent tariffs. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called them “a miscalculation” and vowed to match them “dollar for dollar.”

The move comes as the Iran war strains U.S. military resources in Asia.
